IOP 5 is our most intensive outpatient track: three-hour sessions, five days a week, combining group therapy, individual sessions, and clinical support. It's often the right starting point for early recovery or a step down from residential care. Need a lighter schedule? See IOP 3.

Structured group sessions five days a week focused on skills, insight, and shared experience.
Regular one-on-one sessions with a dedicated primary therapist.
A plan built around your history, goals, and what’s realistic for your week.
Opportunities to loop in family members through our Family Program alongside your IOP 5 track.
Practical planning for the situations most likely to challenge your recovery.
We stay in touch with any outside psychiatrist, therapist, or physician already on your team.
Most clients attend IOP 5 sessions five afternoons or evenings a week, three hours each session — the most structure we offer outside residential care, without asking you to step fully away from work or family. Sessions mix group process work with individual check-ins, and your schedule is built around what you tell us is realistic — not a fixed template.
As you stabilize, your care team will talk with you about when it makes sense to step down to our IOP 3 track, our Outpatient Program (OP), or to shift into ongoing Aftercare, so the intensity of your care always matches where you actually are.
Answers to what people considering our Intensive Outpatient Program most often ask us.
IOP 5 runs three-hour sessions, five days a week, combining group and individual therapy. It's our most structured outpatient level of care.
We accept most major insurance plans and verify your benefits before your first visit, so you know your coverage and any out-of-pocket cost up front. Call (415) 747-4050 for a free, confidential benefits check.
It's more demanding than our lighter tracks, but many clients do keep working or studying while in IOP 5 — sessions are scheduled around your commitments as much as possible. If daily programming isn't realistic for your schedule, our IOP 3 track may be a better fit.
Both are three-hour sessions of group and individual therapy. IOP 5 meets five days a week for clients who need more daily structure, often as a step down from residential care or during an especially difficult stretch of early recovery; IOP 3 meets three days a week.
IOP 5 involves far more sessions per week and more clinical structure, and is typically the starting point for early recovery or a step-down from residential care. Our Outpatient Program (OP) is a lighter, weekly rhythm for clients who are more stable and ready for more independence.
In many cases, yes — IOP 5 is not a medically supervised detox setting. During your assessment, our clinical team will talk through your situation and, if needed, help connect you to detox or a higher level of care first.
Most clients step down into IOP 3, our Outpatient Program, or move directly into Aftercare and our alumni community, so support continues even as the frequency of sessions decreases.
